Sadly, the reality is that many women over age 40, and even some younger women, do not have genetically normal and healthy eggs able to be used for IVF. Often times these women find success with egg donation treatments.
The egg donation procedure involves the donor being treated with injectable fertility medications to produce a large number of eggs for harvest. Collected eggs will then be transferred to the receiving woman through an IVF procedure. The women hoping to get pregnant will be treated with medications that help make her uterus a receptive environment for pregnancy.
For many women treated with egg donation, there is a 45% to 65% chance of live birth after just one donor egg is transferred through IVF.
